Background

The Pesses Chemical Company site is located at 2301 South Main Street in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas. The area is triangular in shape and about 4.2 acres in size. Operations to reclaim cadmium and nickel from dry-cell batteries and metal sludge began on site in 1979 and ended in 1981. Facility operations impacted soil with metals contamination. Following immediate actions to protect human health and the environment, and construction of the site’s long-term remedy, EPA took the site off the Superfund program’s National Priorities List (NPL) in 1995. Operation and maintenance activities and monitoring are ongoing.
